BULLET - AKC Senior Hunter - More!

ANNOUNCING OUR FIRST AKC SENIOR HUNTER
CH J&A's High Caliber Harris Special SH, CGC
Sire: J&A's Apple Jack of Acton JH / Dam: KJ's Requet Bouncin Crysta
The handsome dude above is the Bullet Man who once again has the honor being FIRST and leading the way for others in the ATB family.  On September 14th, 2013 John handled Bullet to his AKC Senior Hunter title. Bullet is loved and owned by our good friend Julie Harris who also put two legs of his SH title on him with John putting on the other two!!! WOO HOO!!

John and I really enjoy participating in AKC Hunt Tests and often encourage families who own a Brittany dog from our close working gundog program to give this a try. While we do enter an occassional field trial and more frequently, a dog show or two it is the hunt tests in which we derive the most pleasure.  A hunt test is an event at which the natural ability and training of gun dogs are evaluated against a written standard. Since the primary purpose of our breeding program is to produce close working hunting dogs for bird hunters hunt tests are especially important to us. Every dog that meets the written standard earns a qualifying score. The standard for each level of testing becomes more difficult as you advance through the tests. This is unlike a field trial in which dog/handler teams compete against one another with only one dog being declared the winner. A hunt test is non-competitive. In the AKC tests there is no set age or limit to the number of times a dog may be tested.   The atmosphere is light and casual, very friendly and a true sense of camaraderie among all who are involved. The dogs are tested and held to an actual actual working or performance standard.  Hunt Tests are something that even a non-hunting family can enjoy with their Brittany who otherwise may never experience hunting upland game with their dog.   Brittanys from our program have done well in both AKC and NAVHDA testing.  A list of our titled dogs are in the right hand column on this page. These photos below are from the recent Northern New England Brittany Club hunt tests held at Sharpes Farm, in Hopkinton New Hampshire where 6 Brittanys from our program brought home beautiful orange ribbons!

SCOOBY's RUBY !
J&A's Rubies Are Heaven Sent "RUBY"
Sire: J&A's Soaring White Sequoia

Roger and Marilyn tried to keep it a secret that they would be taking Ruby to test for her AKC Junior Hunter title !! I was thrilled when they told me however she had been entered in a test at the Cape and also would be coming to Hopkinton.  It means so much to me that they have been taking Ruby for field training through their Brittany club in Massachusetts. After this weekend, the beautiful "Scooby's Ruby" is now half way there. So excited for Ruby and her family, great job Rog and Ruby. (Molly and Scooby are very proud too.)

It was just so awesome to have Dan, his family, and Bolt enjoy their very first hunt tests.  It was kinda cool because he was braced with his littermate, Wilson on the first day and both dogs qualified on both days. Bolt is now halfway to his title!

So proud of these awesome, close working, gun dogs!!!
The ATB 'family' that gathered together at the Hopkinton Hunt tests included, left to right:
Julie with Bullet, John with Jack Dog, Roger & Marilyn with Ruby, me with Treasure, Dan with
(lil) Jack, Dan with Bolt, Pete & Kira with Wilson.  There are actually 3 generations of hunting Brittanys from our program featured in this photograph. We need to practice setting up for group photo shots like these but the most important thing was getting everyone and their dogs together because not everyone was there both days. Next time maybe YOU will join us?!
