The First Generation

These are pictures that Dawn sent to us this weekend taken of Bailey at 11 months old. She is out of Jack and Chrissy, has several show points and notable placements, and several Field Trial placements in both puppy and derby stakes. I'm really looking forward for the chance to see her work this weekend at the CMBC Fall Field Trial! (Thanks Dawn for such great field photos!) I am also looking forward to seeing several other Brittanys from our program run in this weekends field trial as well.
I know Bullet (Baileys littermate) is entered both days, Starr (Wish/Rylee) is entered and her sire (AFC/FC Coos Rylee) has qualified for National Gun Dog Championship this fall in Ft. Smith, Arkansas. That's also Scoobys grandsire. I believe that Hunter (full older brother to Bailey and Bullet) may be running too in the gun dog stake. John has entered Jack this weekend too. As much as I was looking forward to running Pippin in Amateur/Open Derby I have decided to pull her. She is just coming out of season and dogs in heat are ineligible to run. It's too bad really because John and I have worked very hard with her the past few weeks and she gets what she's supposed to be doing after picking up scent and pointing. But probably better in the long run. I do have plans (in my head) to do a couple of Hunt Tests with her if possible this fall. Speaking of Hunt Tests and Brittanys - I have heard that Remi (also littermates to Bailey and Bullet) is doing very well with his gundog training and impressing a lot of people - not the least of which are his very proud owners, Bob, Zina, Madison, and Garrett. Bob has asked for information on the fall Hunt Tests; he is confident Remi will do well. And last but not least, I do believe that Nash (Molly/Jack) is soon to be reunited with his family after spending a few weeks with his trainer in the Rangely region. I'm looking forward to updates and pictures from some other families too, especially as the bird hunting season is now upon us.

The Brittany Mobile has been converted to an official kennel on wheels for the next two weeks. All of our canine crew is about to hit the road. John has spent a lot of time securing things inside to accomodate crates, dogs, and people comfortably. This will be quite an adventure! We don't do this much for ourselves when we take a vacation together... what did I say? the "V" word??? What is that? Thankfully we have enjoyed a lot of traveling and vacationing together in the past, and we have no regrets about our commitment to the dogs. I do longingly recall the annual trip to Siesta Key Florida in December however! Not to be dismayed - neighbors, friends, and family have all offered to help us if we do decide to escape the crew.

I am very excited to see our list for 'serious inquiries' for a future potential pup begin to grow. We're currently in the process of working with several folks. The majority of people who contact us are looking for a hunting companion who will hunt close and well for them during bird hunting season, but will be a family pet the rest of the year. Of course as we continue to do well in conformation shows - we hope to eventually have our dogs in competitive homes of both show and field. The Brittany IS a dual dog, it is not made to perform that way - it simply IS one. There are few if any dogs as versatile as our amazing breed!

Johns napping, I'm going to be soon. It's that kind of afternoon. He has spend most of the day getting ready for the field trial and all the supplies for the field kitchen which he will organize and man.

Last but not least John and I enjoyed a dinner at our daughters. She and her husband and three kids invited Gramie and Grampa for lasagna to go along with a Short family tradition of 'back to school ice cream sundaes.' We also got talked into trying out the Wii - and I have heard there will be pictures on Facebook of that - ruh roh!

Rosie and Treasure lay nearby. Rose enjoyed a ride with John in the car earlier while he went on errands. Last night she slept in the house - with us! Jack kept the couch warm. Treasure doesn't have much of an appetite these days and she has thrown up a couple of times. Hmmmm....;o)

Pippin is a little miffed to have to return to it's a dogs life back at ATB. Things get pretty cushy for her when it's just the two of us at the shows! But Pippin is happy wherever and she knows soon she'll be up with us again. Molly and Jack are hanging together these days. They are probably dreaming of hunting together - something they do enjoy. Okay so at the most - I will have 4 Brittanys in the house at the same time. Not to say we have not had them all up at one time or another. But the idea is to give them all their quality time with us - so we do rotate who is up here, when, and how long. These dogs know that if they are not up in the people house with us, that we are most often down in the dog house with them. It's just the way it is here at All Things Brittany! Have a great afternoon, and thanks again for your interest ! Take care and God Bless. John, Ann and the motley crew!
